Lewis County Head Start

Head Start is a federally funded program for pre-kindergarten children age three and four years. It provides services in the areas of education, health, social services, and parent involvement for income-eligible families.

As the grantee, Reliable Enterprises has legal and fiscal responsibility for LCHS. It serves 156 kids in Lewis County through six sites located in Centralia, Toledo, Vader, Randle, and Salkum.

The children in this program do the following:

  • Practice important social skills
  • Learn problem solving and self help skills, which is really learning to learn.
  • Get meals that provide 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirement.
  • Become wonderfully self sufficient and independent.
  • Gain appropriate pre kindergarten skills in language, literacy and basic math.
  • Develop friendships.
  • Enjoy good books, music, fitness, art and dramatic play every day.
  • Experience regular field trips.
  • Have hearing, vision, dental, and developmental screenings
  • Become ready to take on the world!

Parent involvement includes the following:

  • Participate in making decisions about their child's education.
  • Are welcome in the classroom at all times.
  • Have the opportunity to develop job skills through volunteering in the program.
  • Have the chance to develop leadership skills through program planning.
  • Have the support of staff to access community resources.
  • Regularly discuss child's progress & goals with the teacher.
